contains
a fixed carbon level of about 80%, ash 3%
and moisture of about 7%. The charcoal
pieces should be between 20-80 mm. The coal
should be easy to egnite and have high
calorific value. |

1. The logs dries for 6-8 months
2. The
log chopper cuts
the logs to the right size pieces.
A screen on the conveyor removes bark and
small pieces.
3. The logs are loaded into wagons
that are put into the kiln. It takes 24 hrs to
make charcoal from wood.
4.
The charcoal is bagged
on a conveyor belt and passes
through a number
of de-dusting stations.

The
method for making charcoal is very old, and Skogen Kol is an old company
- about 130 years old. Skogen Kol is today the only industrial size producer
of charcoal in Scandinavia. Thanks to modern technology and high quality
standards we have managed to merge long established traditions and know-how
with development and a drive forward. Due to this we have a strong market
position. The coal we manufacture is of the highest quality, within SIS
(Swedish quality standards), the German DIN standard and other EU - standards.
The Barbeque fuel first and not least
The largest and most important part of the production is the charcoal
and briquettes - 65% becomes charcoal. For this the raw material is of
prime importance. For charcoal we only use hardwood, such as alder, asp
and birch. These types of wood have high density and create a coal with
long glow time and a low content of ash.
Applications
Charcoal
is used for: Barbequing, briquettes, melting plants, hardening of steel,
ground frost thawing, improving the soil quality and animal feed.
Effective
Packaging
The handling of the coal throughout the production
process is of great importance for the final quality. Clean smart bags
are a justified demand from the consumer. After automatic screening in
which the coal is screened into different fractions according to the areas
of use, the coal is packed into consumer packs or alternatively industrial
bags. During the packing process the coal and briquettes pass several
stations where dust and powder is removed. This ensures that the coal
is as clean and dust free as is absolutely possible.
We care about the environment
From an historical aspect charcoal production has always meant a certain
stress on the environment. Today however we view our environment with
completely different eyes. During recent years we have therefore invested
much work and money on ways to alleviate the detrimental impact on the
environment. We also have very high demands on the quality and work towards
an ISO certification.
